Matt Milano celebrated his 30th Birthday on Sunday at Bills training camp

The Buffalo Bills are officially into their second week of training camp and, with that, it’s time to reflect a bit on what was observed during Sunday’s session. There are only seven remaining practices at St. John Fisher University that will be open to the public.

As has been the case throughout the first week of 2024 Bills training camp, the tight end room ate very well during Sunday’s session. It’s clear that new offensive coordinator has a plan to use the team’s staring pair of Dalton Kincaid and Dawson Knox, and each player continues to grow more comfortable with their roles. Though Kincaid garners the bulk of media and fan attention as the receiver of the duo, Knox is here to remind people of his special chemistry with quarterback Josh Allen.

Just in case you forgot, Josh Allen has a vibrant sense of humor, and his teammates are here for it — perhaps even fueled by it, as sports editor Alex Brasky pointed out in sharing this of Knox:

Foul on the celebration:

While the tight ends rightfully received a lot of praise on social media, the receiver room continues to impress. Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman, and Tyrell Shavers each scored against Buffalo’s defense — and Shakir did so twice.

But this tremendous play by Allen to Coleman, who reached for the stars to pull in the football safely away from the defense, was magical.

Bills beat reporter Sal Capaccio introduced the idea of this being Coleman’s signature catch of training camp.

We haven’t heard a massive amount of news about running back James Cook, but expectations are that he’ll continue to grow into a more complete player who remains on the field for any given down. Cook was notably missing on Sunday, with a reported excused absence to attend to a personal matter. In his absence, rookie running back Ray Davis and veteran back Ty Johnson shared duties with the first team, while wide receiver Curtis Samuel saw some snaps in the back field as well.

Special teams coordinator Matthew Smiley has noticed a difference in kicker Tyler Bass during training camp, which team reporter Maddy Glab says involves “improvements in his technique and mindset…says Bass is locked in and excited to show these improvements”

Linebacker Matt Milano celebrated his 30th birthday on Sunday, and Sal Capaccio shared video of Milano on-field to celebrate the milestone. Capaccio noted that Milano’s “still wearing the black sleeve over his right leg, but continues to take every rep in every drill. He has not been limited at all as far as practice is concerned.”

On the injury front, offensive lineman Will Clapp reportedly had to be looked at by team trainers after an apparent injury.

Wide receiver Chase Claypool suffered another injury, this time to his left foot as shared by Bills beat reporter Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic. Buscaglia tweeted that Claypool was held out the remainder of practice. What this means for his chances to make the 53-man roster remain uncertain at this point.

The Buffalo Bills are back on the football fields of Fisher tomorrow at 9:45 a.m. EDT.
