Ranking all 32 starting NFL quarterbacks coming into the 2021 season: numbers 23-32

What better way to spice up the dull period of the NFL offseason than by ranking some quarterbacks! Over the next few days, we’ll take a stab at ranking all 32 starting quarterbacks for the upcoming 2021 NFL season.

Today, we take a look at the bottom 10 QBs in the NFL, featuring some rookies, some struggling veterans, and one surprising name. Let us know what you think about our quarterback rankings in the comment section.

32. Drew Lock, Denver Broncos

It’s still hard to believe the Broncos passed up on Justin Fields with the ninth overall pick in this year’s draft with Drew Lock as their current starter. Lock had a miserable 2020 season, throwing at least one interception in half of Denver’s games. His 15 interceptions tied him for the most in football and the Broncos had an awful year. It would not be surprising if Teddy Bridgewater becomes the starter in Denver a few weeks into the 2021 season.

31. Cam Newton, New England Patriots

While Newton is considered the starter right now, Mac Jones seems to have a good chance at unseating the 32-year-old this season. Last season, Newton threw more interceptions than touchdowns at 10 to 8. It was pretty evident he just is not a starting-caliber quarterback in this league at this point of his career.

30. Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles

Despite winning just one of the four games he started, Jalen Hurts did show some promise at the end of last season. Hurts had a monster game in Week 15 against Arizona in which he threw for 338 yards and three touchdowns, and rushed for 106 yards. As the man from day one this year, Hurts will have a chance to prove himself in 2021.

29. Justin Fields, Chicago Bears

When it’s all said and done, we’re putting Justin Fields ahead of Andy Dalton as the guy taking the first offensive snap when the Bears play the Rams in Week 1. Fields was dominant in his two years at Ohio State, throwing 69 touchdowns to just nine interceptions. PFF even named him the most accurate quarterback in their history of tracking college football. He possesses all the tools to become an elite quarterback in this league, but the team’s overall talent around him may hold him back.

28. Zach Wilson, New York Jets

Zach Wilson’s dominant 2020 season at BYU led to him being selected second overall in this year’s draft. While he did play great in his final collegiate season, with 33 touchdowns, 3692 passing yards and just three interceptions, it will be interesting to see how he adjusts to the NFL game, after never really playing top-level competition at BYU. However, he certainly has the physical tools needed to succeed, including an absolute rocket arm.

27. Tua Tagovailoa, Miami Dolphins

While Tagovailoa did post a 6-3 record after taking over for Ryan Fitzpatrick, his individual performance last season left a lot to be desired. He did a good job of protecting the football, but Tagovailoa averaged just 6.26 yards per attempt, showing his inability to push the ball deep down the field. With lots of talent around him, 2021 is a make-or-break year for the signal-caller.

26. Sam Darnold, Carolina Panthers

In three years in New York, Sam Darnold was 13-25 as a starter, but can you really blame him? Darnold had to deal with Adam Gase as his head coach and was on one of the least talented team in football every year. Darnold gets a chance to revitalize his career this year by joining the Panthers. With some talented offensive weapons around him like Christan McCaffrey and D.J. Moore, and good offensive coaches in Matt Rhule and Joe Brady, Darnold has a chance to rewrite the narrative this upcoming season.

25. Daniel Jones, New York Giants

Giants fans won’t be happy, but what’s the infatuation with Daniel Jones. The guy is 8-18 as a starter and failed to throw a single touchdown pass in seven of the 14 games he started last season. Jones is up this high because of the upgrade of talent around him will benefit him in a big way. A healthy Saquon Barkley will be Jones’ best friend, but he’s still not a quarterback that will be able to lead his team to the postseason and beyond.

24. Jameis Winston, New Orleans Saints

It’s hard to know what the Saints are going to get from Jameis Winston this season. The former number one overall pick hasn’t played much since he threw 30 touchdown passes and 30 interceptions for the Buccaneers in 2019. With a genius offensive mind like Sean Payton as his head coach, and still a talented team around him overall, Winston could be one of the more surprising quarterbacks in the league this year.

23. Jared Goff, Detroit Lions

In his five years in the NFL, Jared Goff really hasn’t lived up to the expectations set when he was selected number one overall in the 2016 NFL Draft. He’s thrown for more than 30 touchdowns in a season just once and has had a passer rating below 91 in each of the last two seasons. One thing Goff has been able to do is win games. He’s 42-27 in 69 career starts. While being on a talented Rams team with Sean McVay as your head coach certainly has a lot to do with that, Goff still deserves some recognition for being able to consistently win games as a quarterback at the highest level.
