It’s officially official

Late yesterday, we brought you the news that the Minnesota Vikings were on the verge of a deal with defensive tackle (and former Viking) Sheldon Richardson. Today, the deal became official.

The deal for Richardson is a one-year pact that is worth $3.6 million, a figure that could climb to $4.35 million with incentives, according to Close, Personal Friend of The Daily Norseman Tom Pelissero™.

This is a good deal for the Vikings, as it gives them an interior pass rushing presence that, to this point, it is not clear that they can get from Dalvin Tomlinson or Michael Pierce. Tomlinson was signed to be more of a three-technique after playing the nose with the New York Giants, but we’re not sure at this point how he’ll adapt to that change full-time. Richardson, at the very least, gives the Vikings someone that can rotate in on obvious passing situations and help to generate some push on the interior.

To make room for Richardson on the roster, the Vikings released rookie punter Zach von Rosenberg.
