The end of an era at St. John Fisher College.
The Buffalo Bills held their training camp at St. John Fisher College outside of Rochester, New York, every summer since 2000, but for the last two years, due to COVID-19, the team has moved its training camp back to its Orchard Park facilities.
On the latest episode of the Billieve Podcast, host John Boccacino discusses the future of Bills training camp, as Buffalo’s agreement with Fisher has come to an end.
The move to switch camp from Fisher to Orchard Park was made because of difficulties with ongoing COVID-19 protocols such as social distancing for non-vaccinated people, and it also comes as the current agreement between the team and St. John Fisher College concludes.
While head coach Sean McDermott and general manager Brandon Beane have always professed to enjoying holding training camp down the Thruway in Rochester, the Bills were one of only nine NFL teams not to hold training camp close to their team facility. The Bills have a state-of-the-art training facility, as well as two outdoor grass practice fields to use. Additionally, they can move inside the fieldhouse in the case of inclement weather.
Boccacino dives into the history of training camp at Fisher, including why the team moved its training camp from Fredonia to Pittsford in 2000. He discusses the pros and cons of holding training camp away from home, speculates on whether camp will ever return to Fisher, and shares his training camp memories from Fisher.
